Joan Miró
The Blue Star, 1972
lithograph
31 x 27 in.

Joan Miró (1893 - 1983) was a world renowned Spanish Catalan painter, sculptor, and ceramist who was born in the sea port city of Barcelona. Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism and a manifestation of Catalan pride. He concentrated his interest on the symbol, not giving too much importance to the representing theme, but to the way the symbol emerged as the piece of work. His mature style evolved from the tension between his fanciful, poetic impulse and his vision of the harshness of modern life. He worked extensively in lithography and produced numerous murals, tapestries, and sculptures for public spaces.
